UFC 71 - Fight Analysis - Chuck Liddell The Iceman vs. Quentin Rampage Jackson

Well, as I'm sure you already know, the mixed martial arts world was KO'ed almost as fast as the right-handed hook punch that floored the fighter who stopped many to be practical and easily, at least until that date, the most feared strikers in the light heavyweight division. Of course I'm talking about the featured fight of the evening at UFC # 71 with Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell vs. Quentin "Rampage" Jackson.

Liddell, who several yearsAgo were from Jackson during a Pride fight in Japan defeated, are looking to only three (now four avenge) the loss in his brilliant career. The first two to Randy Couture and Jeremy Horn. Both of which he avenged in an impressive way in recent bouts. The third defeat and then finished fourth to Quentin "Rampage" Jackson.

Now I have two men fighting on numerous occasions and I have seen a very high appreciation for the abilities of the two. I must admit that my heartPulling for Liddell, but my gut feeling told me that Jackson was there to take. Score one for the good and nil for the heart.

As we all know that Liddell is primarily a stand-up fighter and should still be one of the most feared strikers in the light heavyweight division. Although he is a suffering "not flash" Knock-out in this struggle, this does not seem to represent an adverse knock as much as long-lasting effects are concerned, and should not on its ability to strikedevastating knockout power in both hands.

Jackson, who is a very aggressive club, is mainly known for his skills and beat his phenomenal "ground and pound" fighting force. Jackson is also very strong and has fought some very talented and tough opponent in the Pride organization.

What follows is a detailed analysis of the professional fight from start to finish, concluding with some final thoughts about both fighters. Please note thatthese are my opinions from my own perspective of events by the omissions. They are not intended to shed any kind of negative or disparaging thoughts, words, etc. on one of the participating hunters. I have a great respect for all, and I mean everyone who steps on the mat. So, with another let's get started.

THE FIGHT:

From the opening bell, Jackson was clearly the aggressor when he confronted on the octagon with Liddell. Throughout theFight, Jackson controlled the center of the octagon, and Liddell made to move the outer edges. Jackson's defensive skills with his hands was clearly visible over the entire length of the fight, as he always his hands and elbows at the sides, which would have wiped out any hidden boxing coach proud grin. Liddell on the other side had to open the hands wide apart and leaving the whole front of his body and his left hand was held primarilytoo low and away from his head. The Liddell ultimately prove fatal.

The first landing impact of the struggle was a left leg roundhouse kick to the inside of the left thigh Jackson. It did not seem to be too much on this kick, and it seemed more of a feeling of kind of impact as a cast with dubious intentions. Liddell did not immediately follow up on the kick, cut out but after a few minutes of feeling out a couple of Jackson's throw to the headwhile he and Jackson moved the octagon. None of these linked Jabs.

A short time later, Jackson threw a left jab ineffective and inefficient while Liddell threw his right hand. Neither landed blow. At this time, Jackson seemed a little frustrated Liddell moves on the ring and let both hands and asked Liddell to come in and fight. Liddell responded with a lunging left jab to each other, connected but with little effect. Liddell, followedthis with a right-handed uppercut and a left hook. Both ineffective. Jackson against the punch with a right hook from a left hook, which were strong and powerful, but apparently not followed with a performance at the country.

Liddell threw a left jab that was pretty ineffective, and then only moments later threw a looping, left hook to the body of Jackson. That was not so much a mistake as his dangling left arm and left handaround his waist, instead it was immediately back when it should throughout the entire fight. This is to protect with his left hand around his head and his elbow on the left side of his body.

Jackson turned on a mistake by Liddell and defend effectively, by the loop left hook to the body, then he brought his right hand around and over the top of the left arm Liddell in a picture perfectcounter right hook to the side of the head Liddell. This led to Liddell will be torn down, but not as the moment. However, this was as soon as Jackson pressed the attack and jumped on Liddell landed two more solid right hand to the chin of Liddell, while on the ground, the moment threw him out, in fact, so referee "Big John" McCarthy Step Fixed and stop the fight.

Folks, we now have a new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion of the world, Quentin"Rampage" Jackson.

The Knockout:

Now there were two major factors that hooks directly to the effectiveness of Jackson's Punch, of which Jackson himself had absolutely no control over the charge. That's a contributing factor was made by none other than Liddell himself available. I have broken both of these factors down by the fighters, and they are as follows:

Liddell:

If you watched closely co, and the boy I had countless times with myTivo, you can see clearly that Liddell had his left hand and left arm dangling at his waist after he left hook to the body of the loop Jackson. This resulted in leaving the left side of the head completely open and vulnerable to attack. After many times verified this fight I would suspect that the reason Liddell left his left arm hanging down due to improper training and oversight was. I do not know whatLiddell thought to rely on like that, knowing how strong punchers of Jackson. It seems that forgot the number Liddell fighting a rule of professional, "Protect yourself at all times."

Jackson

He took Liddell clearly surprised when he threw the nice right handed hook blow to the head. But what some of you might not notice is the picture which he nearly perfect defense to protect themselves by looping left hook to Liddellthe body which immediately before the left hook to the side of the head Liddell. Jackson held his hands and elbows throughout the duration of this bout and this in itself proved to be protected by Liddell looping left hook to the body part. That, and ducking his head briefly and threw his right hook around and over the top of the left arm Liddell that happen so easily hanging around the waist at the time, rather than toaround the head, where it should have been.

My recommendations:

Here are my thoughts on how each fighter could on their respective capabilities, in particular in the context of this struggle to improve.

Liddell:

1. Keep your hands up! I know this sounds simple and it is. I myself learned the hard way on more than one occasion.

2. Use your own skills better in fact be throwing more than just a kick. She threw a single solitary kick the wholeto fight and it seemed more a feeling than a kick thrown with intent.

3. Take your syringe with a purpose, not only easy to flick them out for no apparent reason.

4. Do not let your opponent the opportunity to dictate the tempo of the fight.

5. Learning and practice, to avoid how to hit in the fighting near the opponent, and if not the beatings, as their effect by minimizing them by their arms and vehicles to avoidwith the force of the blows.

Jackson

I am really hard pressed any real deficiencies in the performance of Jackson's to be found. Sun said that the only thing I really recommend at this time, there is to keep training hard and not resting on your laurels and you could be champion for quite a long time. Or until you upwards against Dan Henderson.

Final Thoughts:

Although this has led to a loss for Liddell, I think you'll see him again even moremore dangerous than before, when he has an indomitable spirit and from the mistakes that he get into this fight. But I think it would be foolish to him again for a title shot come immediately. He had a few tune-up first fighting for his confidence and skill levels before they are either Jackson or Dan Henderson, I'll beat Jackson, if their union bout for the Pride and UFC titles coming later this year to recover. As far as Jackson is concerned, this waswithout a doubt one of his most impressive thing I've ever seen from him. Although I am picking winning Henderson, bout her, I'm fully expecting one of the best fights of the year in this game.
